Introduction to acrylic

Acrylic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C₃H₄O₂. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, miscible with water, and soluble in ethanol and ether. Active chemical properties, easy to polymerize in the air, can be reduced to propionic acid by hydrogenation, and added with hydrogen chloride to form 2-chloropropionic acid, mainly used for the preparation of acrylic resins.

In 1843, the oxidation of acrolein to acrylic acid was first discovered. In 1931, the American Rohm-Haas Company successfully developed the hydrolysis of cyanoethanol to produce acrylic acid, which has been the only production method in the industry for a long time.

In 1939, the German W.J. Repe invented the acetylene carbonylation method to produce acrylic acid, and in 1954 established an industrial plant in the United States. At the same time, the hydrolysis of acrylonitrile to produce acrylic acid has been successfully developed.

Since the United Carbide Corporation of the United States built an industrial plant for acrylic acid production by the propylene oxidation method in 1969, countries have successively adopted this method for production.

Chemical properties
