The nature of the Polycarboxylate superplasticizer

Polycarboxylic acid water reducing agent (PCE) is one of the most important concrete water reducing agents because of its excellent performance. Compared with other products such as polycondensates, they fluidize cement even at lower water cement levels, require relatively lower doses and have longer slump retention.

It is synthesized from unsaturated monomer of carboxylic acid and large monomer of long chain alkane. PCE can be generally divided into polyesters and polyethers according to the connecting form of its main and side chains. The structure of polyester -PCE is characterized by the ester bonds of its main and side chains.

The key of the synthesis technique is the esterification or transesterification of the macromolecule monomer with methoxy polyethylene glycol and acrylate. Polyether reactions are obtained by radical polymerization using the direct polymerization of large and other small monomers of alkenyl polyethylene glycol ethers (carboxylic acids and sulfonic acids) in an aqueous solution.

The types of the concrete admixture
